Where do you start?
Firstly I have to say, I don’t know how the girls do it…I’ve had bugger all sleep the last couple of days, yet if Ingrid had a fraction of what I’ve had she’d be estactic.
I left Birth care last night (the birthday) around 10:30pm, the baby had just fallen into a nice deep sleep and things looked good. Little did I know the poor wee thing decided it didn’t want to sleep at all, so naturally, Ingrid had to tag along too. (all this on the back of a marathon 18 hour labour!)
They all say day 2 is tough and they’re right. Breastfeeding ain’t an easy thing to master either. Thankfully all the staff at Birth care are angels…they’ve helped Ingrid and baby latch on all day and taught us both a hell of a lot. I even got to bath bubs for the first time this morning which was awesome – she loved the water and was just staring at me with her beautiful big blue eyes the whole entire time. I changed her nappies and learnt how to wrap up bubs nice and tight.
A took baby away for an hour or two down to the lounge to give Ingrid some much needed rest and nodded off a couple of times with her in my arms and awoke to see her staring up at me…hard to put into words what that felt like.
As hard as I know it is for Ingrid…she’s still radiating and grinning from ear to ear. She's going to be a fantastic mum. Her room is great too and decked out with big bunches of flowers and lots of pressies. So thanks to everyone for these. Pretty close to a name – hopefully will report on that tomorrow for you all.
I just can’t wait to get back there in the morning to be with my family.
